Fort Wayne: A Genealogy Destination

In addition to many historical buildings and sites in downtown Fort Wayne, we are also home to the Genealogy
Center at the Allen County Public Library.

Every year, thousands of professional researchers and many people simply interested in their family history visit
Fort Wayne and the center. At www.genealogycenter.org/Home.aspx, you can download a brochure, view the library's catalog, see a video
and find out about upcoming events sponsored by the Genealogy Center.

According to their brochure:

The Genealogy Center is a remarkable family history destination
and continues to build on its tradition of excellence in serving genealogists,
historians and other interested hobbyists and scholars.
An experienced staff provides services to a full range of patrons,
from children to senior citizens and from beginners to experienced
researchers. To support these efforts, the Center has gathered an
extensive collection of 350,000 printed volumes and more than
513,000 items of micro-film and micro-fiche. These resources grow
daily through library purchases and donations from appreciative
genealogists and historians.

Visit Fort Wayne and you'll find this world-class center and an entire downtown of things to do. After a day of genealogy work, you can take a short stroll to many terrific dining establishments or, if your timing is good, take in an event at the historic Embassy Theatre.

Of course, you'll want a great place to stay so we hope you'll find the 1901 LaSalle Bed & Breakfast Inn and the 1842 Sion Bass House and Spa, downtown Fort Wayne's only bed and breakfast. Our properties are both historical and the Sion Bass House was once the home of Civil War hero, Sion Bass, who was also a major industrialist before volunteering for the war as commander of the 30th Indiana Volunteer Infantry.
